Paine was a word smith par excellence! His writing is point on and inspiring. His words so often follow the premise of truth being eternal. I wish he would have delved deeper into the eternal truth of Biblical principles. He made a remarkable contribution to the War for Independence.

TP was a deist at best, but was probably an atheist. That is why he fit in so well with the revolution in France....🇫🇷🔪💀✍🏼📖

However, from my historical understanding, deism was not a thing until after the Revolution and even the Constitution was enacted. But, his being an atheist or agnostic at best certainly fit the French Revolution.

Thomas Paine without a doubt help foster in the revolution and in dire times rallied the people to it's cause when all seemed lost. These are the times that try men's souls..

I used to think our Founding Fathers were prophets or mystics of some sort.

They weren't 🤔

But they did have a pretty clear understanding of mankind and concupiscence, thankfully.

We live in a time when good is called evil and evil is called good, and many of our citizens and elected officials are loathed to discern between the two.

Truly a great man and a Father of the Revolution! His works stirred hearts and minds throughout the colonies - all the way to, "Give me liberty, or give me death!" A far cry from the, "anything goes - everything's OK" attitude that seems so prevalent today. Thank you for the timely reminder, Tara Ross!

The 2nd sentence says it all; it pretty much doesn't even need the 1st sentence. That 2nd sentence makes the point that we have no choice whether we want to or not. Circumstances are not granting us the luxury of choosing when our confrontations are coming. Whatever might be necessary or proper -- well, the soldiers are banging at the door right now!

The Bible says something similar, "To him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin" (James 4:17). One must always do what is right and as soon as possible. Otherwise, it lets evil flourish or needs fester, and no good comes from those!

Thank you Tara. OMG, yes, Thomas Paines quote from so many years ago is so very appropriate today. In my opinion, the election in November, 2024 was an example of the American people heeding Mr. Paines advice. The people said "Enough". Enough of the crazy progressive bent thar our country has been on for so long. Let's control the crazy spending, close our borders, properly educate our children, eliminate the strange indoctrination of our children and restore our God given freedoms, set in our Constitution as our bill of rights.

Now, it is up to us to be certain that our elected officials actually institute those reforms and achieve the promises that were made during the last election.

Thank you also Tara for reminding us of the anniversary of the battle of Midway.
