The "fragile" part is the most quoted, but read the rest and tell me if it isn't more important...

"It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again."

Yes! All of this quote is important.

It would be wonderful if the generations today truly understood that quote.

President Reagan nailed it with that statement. I am heartbroken talking to people who don't understand nor want to learn. I plan to keep trying to pass on the wisdom. Thanks Tara.

We must always be aware of the huge value of our Constitution and the history surrounding it. FREEDOM!

This is a quote that I remember often, as Mr. Reagan spoke the truth succinctly. Unfortunately, it is a quote that isn't on the mind and tongue of every American.

May God protect this great nation, and the freedom that we have fought so hard to win and keep.

It is so very important that we recognize this truth.

"Your audience is a very well educated and intelligent group" -- completely agree. I so much appreciate that the comments are thoughtful. Too much of social media is the opposite, and I love that everyone helps me to keep this page more substantive/uplifting.

I agree. Even on FB those that follow and comment on Tara’s posts are serious thinkers. It is encouraging.

Ronald Regan’s first sentence is often quoted and should be carried with us each and every day. However, imho, the “meat” of his exceptional speech is in the second and third sentences.

"Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction," Reagan famously said.

“It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again."

I loved RR as a Governor and as our President. He was great in both positions.

Are we witnessing the elimination of freedom now?? Are democrats destroying us financially?? Billions to other countries, most of whom hate us, while our own go wanting! Our jobs exported to slave labor countries! And Donald Trump is all they can think about.

To be fair, too many GOP incumbents are supporting the out-of-control spending. 😥

Slowly, laws and policies have been enacted that have taken the fight out of many of our citizens by distorting the spirit of freedom to mean no responsibility to our American Heritage and way of life.
