Yes, Tara Ross, liberty is still worth fighting for today. But the greatest freedom of all is still free and won: Christ Jesus bore the cost of our sin if one will only accept it.

Thank you Tara for the MOH information. I knew much of the story about the criteria for a MOH, but I learned about the evolution of the criteria and how difficult it is to meet the requirements today. I have renewed respect for each and every recipient of this Medal, especially from WW2 to the present time.

I am grateful to those who serve. In debt to those who were wounded and survived. Cannot repay for those who gave there life so others could survive and we as a nation remain free.

God bless them all. For All Gave Some and Some Gave All. RIP.

I can understand someone having an aversion to emulating Europe. Even today some people are wanting America to emulate Europe in some way. but we are Americans and while some may not like it, we do things uniquely the American way, including the MOH. Hope that never changes.

Every MOH citation I've ever read says essentially the same thing, that the act of heroism was undertaken to save his fellows. I have yet to read a MOH citation that says the recipient did so to save democracy, the American experience or any other such.

Love learning about the history of the Medal of Honor. So glad it became a reality after the one man against it retired. Just because another nation does it doesn’t mean it is a bad thing to do. I’m glad it morphed into something more meaningful. Brave men and women should be recognized. Appreciate your closing statements. We definitely should celebrate the “men and women who fought, bled and died for our liberty. That liberty is still worth fighting for today.”

Perhaps Great Scott just had the highest standard? After all, he'd been in the army since 1811, and rode with Gen. Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812 and the Indian Wars. And he had been General-of-the-Army for 20 of his 50 army years....
