Miller was a much-loved and successful musician of the era. He was a man with A LOT to lose. But that didn’t stop him from putting everything on the line for his country.
One of my parents favorites and a hero as well. Men like Glenn Miller were not uncommon during WW2.
Many celebrities volunteered or were drafted for service and they served willingly and proudly. I don't think that the Hollywood elite were as political left as today.
At any rate, God bless Glenn Miller and all of the Greatest Generation. Thank you Tara.
So many people contributed in so many ways to the war effort. Miller was doing what he could do. The support required for so many fighting men was incredible. Many never saw combat but they played vital roles. Miller was doing what he could for his country and her fighting men. And he gave his all. So much respect for him and those of his generation...so much. Their accomplishment was and still is amazing.
Glen Miller - extraordinarily successful / genius entertainer CHOSE to enlist to do his part in the war effort . His big band performances did wonders to keep spirits up at home and abroad in incredibly popular performances enjoyed by millions in and out of uniform .
He could have played it safe with a legitimate exemption but was determined to do what he could to further the war effort & keeping up morale . Glen Miller paid the ultimate price as his plane went down as he was traveling to recently liberated Paris in preparation for another show …. a True American Hero !
Music not only lifts the spirit but allowed the troops to connect with home through familiar songs and music that can transport your mind a little closer to home.
Glenn Miller’s music was my parents era, but I was familiar with it and a some of his story as a little girl. Thanks for filling in a few details I didn’t know, Tara. It sounds like he was a hero in his own right due to his patriotic actions.

Glen Miller, while he did not fight, gave his all so that we could be free.
40 years after he died, our jazz ensemble performed “In the Mood” on a frequent basis to the cheers of our classmates.

Like many of his generation, he answered the country's call even when he didn't have to. RIP Sir!

Were the other occupants of the plane found? Did they survive the trip?
No survivors were ever found or located.
People "answer the call" in different ways!! Miller's was to keep making young soldiers upbeat and keep morale high!! Thanks for today's lesson Tara!!
