Yeager is one of my all time favorites! I cannot remember when it was he was flying chase or something when the pilot suddenly lost all power and even could not see so Yeager flew his wing and talked him into a smooth landing…in his easy going and smooth West Virginia accent. The incident went viral somehow and the airwaves were suddenly filled with that easy West Virginia accent as every pilot suddenly spoke with that smooth drawl!
A childhood hero, Chuck Yeager was definitely a hero for my generation. Breaking the sound barrier, a normal thing now, was the feat of the unknown.
An Air Force pilot had the skills and the intestinal fortitude to be the first man to break the sound barrier with a relatively unstable rocket plane. Test pilot Yeager, a man's man. Thank you Tara.
Those heady days of flight, with new records being set every day, it seemed. It was shortly before my time, but not so far back that it didn't fire my young imagination. As a youth I lived under the flight path of Wright-Patterson AFB and regularly got to see those big jets overhead, so close it seemed I could reach up and feel their rivets! And sonic booms were a regular part of our lives. Long gone now, but not forgotten.
A distinguished member of the Greatest Generation. They are owed the world over for the freedoms their sacrifices earned for us. It’s saddening to see the world returning to that which they fought against. Thank you for bringing history to us, Tara. And thank you, Chuck Yeager. RIP, sir.
I can only barely imagine the stress, and exhilaration that Yeager was under, and also the sense of accomplishment that he had. That which he did was and is, noteworthy for the following pilots and succeeding generations.
Sounds more like Chuck Yeagermeister to me! 😆 🤣 😂 I'm glad he survived the fall to break the sound barrier. I think he celebrated the anniversary by repeating the feat every year for about 50 years.
A brave soul that flew faster than his angels could fly is now flying with them. Without his bravery our space program would never have made it off the ground.
This is one of our most exciting pieces of history. Chuck Yeager was smart and courageous. His wife must have matched him in courage. Even in a story I’m familiar with you always add something I didn’t know. Thanks, Tara!

One of America’s brave pioneers. Extra credit for flying with broken ribs.....That’s painful!
What a great and brave man. Willing to push the limits of what mankind could do!
🇺🇸 The Brigadier General was a hero at our house, when I was growing up. Never was sure if this story was just legend, and now I know. Thanks, TR! 🇺🇲

👍👍👍
Thank you, Tara.
Preparation is a key to success. The alcohol might have been a plus or minus but this time a plus.
He was a great test pilot and man.
