I can't say that prejudice against blacks didn't exist while I served in the late 1960s, it did. But, I proudly served with men and women of all races and overt prejudice wasn't allowed. General Benjamin Davis opened many doors for an integrated military. I salute you Sir. Thank you Tara.

We are a nation with faults, as are all, reflecting the nature of man. What sets us apart is the capacity to evolve and adapt, as this man’s noteworthy achievements and his son’s clearly demonstrate. That is one of the major reasons why so many people worldwide wish to enter and live in America. We offer genuine hope and provide the freedom to be self reliant and successful, regardless of color, race or creed. We shall thrive as long as we have faith, adhere to civility and reject the slippery paths of hatred and fear. God bless America.

The saddest part of it all was that he was promoted because of his color, not because of his many worthy successes. Politics all too often hinder the worthy.

Thank you, Tara, for another great story of a man who stood by his nation during a time when his nation did not stand by him until his career was nearly over!

Great man who accomplished GREAT things!

The founders knew the concept of majority tyranny. THAT'S why they devised this Constitutional Republic, where the people are the boss, and where all are equal, where all have Rights derived from nature, from God. They recognized the fact that slavery was wrong but it took the bloodshed of 600,000+ for that to be righted. Then Thousands more had to endure the fight to eliminate segregation. NOW we must stop the left from eliminating those rights. Speech, Religion, Self Defense, Fair trial, presumption of innocence, all are under assault by career politicians who have done nothing but hate the rights of the People. Term Limits for Congress!

I’ve never understood racial bias. It wasn’t just the blacks that experienced it, although they are the group whose history is most well known. It’s admirable that Benjamin O. David, Sr. was so patriotic and of strong character that he persevered in his goals both to serve his country and to help integrate other black men in the military. What a proud moment for him when his son followed in his footsteps. America is lucky that such men existed and there are still such men among us! Men of integrity and intelligence. Upstanding men and women of all races are assets to America.

General Davis showed us how to work from a position of lesser status to push aside undeserved bigotry and prejudice. In my book this rates a tremendous and genuine respect. He serves as an inspiration for any who seek to improve personally as well as working to help an organization. Yet his work contributed heavily to our nation and the national culture.
