What an asset Benedict Arnold could have been later in the war if he had not had feet of clay!

Benedict Arnold had some serious personality flaws and with time they became apparent. He started out well, but like always happens eventually his true character was exposed. Too bad he didn’t remain a patriot. His actions at the Powder House are not what we think of when we think of Arnold. His reputation was irreparably damaged. Instead of remembering him for his courage in the fight for independence he is known as a traitor and all traitors since are referred to as “Benedict Arnolds”. A sad legacy.

Happy Powder House Day. Thank you Tara. I believe that this may be the first time I have heard of this occasion in New Haven.

Benedict Arnold was a respected soldier and leader during the first part of the Revolutionary War but he apparently fell in love with a woman whose loyalty was to the King and he felt slighted by the Continental Army. Then, his loyalty switched to the King and he became a Traitor. Anyway, Happy Powder House Day.

The action is definitive of Arnold. As you stated, Arnold was not one to wait around. Happy Powder House Day!

Thank you, Tara! If only he had stayed true to his country, we would know a different history. Such a loss at that time.

What a testament of his courage, but an insight to his temperament. Had he been given what he rightfully thought was his, would he have held to the patriot cause, or would another considered slight have pushed him out of the one cause and into the other? We will never know.

“Benedict Arnold was a genuine American hero before he turned traitor”? Interesting story. I was a genuine cross country runner before I turned 70, gained some weight, and lost some stamina. And Judas Iscariot was a nice Jewish boy before . . . well, we all know the story. Sorry, Benedict, we are the sum of all our parts. He started out fine, but his decisions left him forever a traitor.

Arnold's pride and possibly the new loyalist wife are what brought him down. It's sad because he likely have been a big part of the ultimate victory. Thanks Tara!
