I have not heard this story before Tara, thank you. "I was born for a storm and a calm does not suit me" seems to be a justified outlook for someone who has lost his father and mother and both brothers before the age of 15. I must learn more about our 7th president.

How someone who was a prisoner of war at the age of 13, having contracted smallpox and lost his whole family ends up as President of the United States must be known.

Thank you for sharing your "two minute history lessons" with us, Tara. I share your posts and encourage others to subscribe. These stories are such an encouragement in these dark days of US government. To me it seems it was a time that loyalty and patriotism was the common bond; not greed and self-seeking power. This story about Jackson has long fascinated me, and I like to think my former students would recognize it from our class. It explains so much about Jackson and the anger he held toward all things British. Thank you for sharing it so well, Tara.

Jackson’s life experiences taught him a lot at an early age. I especially like the bond he shared with his brother. Like all brothers growing up close together I’m sure that they would have “stories and adventures to tell”
