Adams served under the system where the VP was the loosing opponent candidate for president. That pretty much guaranteed that, at the president's pleasure, there would be less than nothing that the president would want the VP to do. As for Andrew Jackson, I think his mom was still alive when he was taken prisoner by the British at Waxhaws.. no? He moved away from the region after is mother and brother passed away for parts west. I hadn't realized he was still THAT YOUNG when he lost his mom!
