What an amazing person and yet not surprisingly, Mr. Kobashigawa left the war behind him and his didn't want accolades for having defended his great nation. Such was the Greatest Generation.

Thank you Tara for another MOH remembrance of another Hero who didn't feel the need for acclimatization.

Yeah, just put in the mail. I almost died killing a bunch of people to protect my teammates and country, but I'll get it at the post office. They should've told him it'd been lost in the mail....

For this incredibly brave soldier to "just put it in the mail" shows how ordinary he felt his act of extreme bravery was! I'm sure he felt like anyone would have done the same thing! God Bless this great American!

Tech Sgt. Kobashigawa is yet another fine example if the Neisi that served admirably during that war. The battlefield commission and Distinguished Service cross were affirmation of his value and service.

The fact that he never mentioned them to his family, and just wanted the MOH mailed to him leads be to believe that he had a great deal if humility about his service and actions then in combat. He simply did what believed needed done.

Can you imagine finding out your beloved grandfather was a hero on a school field trip. Asking your Dad why he never told her and her Dad being just as confused. Wow

Not sure how I feel about his reaction to the MOH or the DC. These are true honors bestowed upon one by a grateful nation.

I do respect him for his service however.

As you said in your story "Yet another member of the Greatest Generation, giving all he had to give", and I add "not expecting anything in return". He did it for his Country, not for himself. Love hearing these stories that helps us remember today what that generation did for us.

Those Niesi-American soldiers were, if anything, overachievers. They fought like they had to prove their patriotism and therefore suffered some of the highest unit casualties and earned a lion share of medals. R.I.P., sir.

Another magnificent soldier I had never heard about before. Always inspiring to read of someone who courage matched his humility. I can only imagine how Mr. Kobashigawa’s family felt when they found out about his Distinguished Service Cross. So proud of him mixed with total surprise. The Greatest Generation indeed!
