Yank was the brainchild of Egbert White, a World War I veteran. He wanted a magazine that would help the average infantryman persevere through the horrors of war.
What an innovative way to unite and support the troops. The military is a brotherhood and anyone who serves can relate to the trials, experiences and yes even the foibles of military life. This is why veterans have so many "stories to tell", and why the troops would be so eager to share in those stories.
For those who have served, news of what and how others were doing was very important. Being a cog in the wheel makes a person lose perspective. A bigger picture, like "Yank" or "Stars and Stripes"would have brightened the picture.
Too bad it was retired I think that todays men and women of the services would appreciate that they had a newspaper directed and dedicated just for them.
“Yank” was an excellent way to inform and enthuse those with their lives on the line for Liberty!
Thank you Tara!
