What a display of strength. The battle to win control of the island of Tinian proved American superiority over the Japanese.
The island was obviously of great importance to the eventual outcome of the war.
God bless the United States Marine Corps and Navy. God bless the Greatest Generation and all who serve or have served this great nation. Thank you Tara.
The remarkable strategy of the US military at that time lead to the ultimate victory. So sad that we lost that edge in later conflicts. We have always needed great leaders to execute the battles. That’s who makes up our Medal of Honor recipients and many unrecognized warriors. Sometimes it was cunning maneuvers and other times it was sheer guts and grit. We are fortunate to have such courageous and dedicated American patriots.
A decisive battle that was well planned, well prepared, and perfectly executed. When you think about it, much of war is like chess - move, countermove, deception, always planning several moves ahead. This invasion definitely shortened the war by setting up the atomic strike. I sound like a broken record, but another fine story, Tara.
After Okinawa, my father was sent to Tinian where he was resting in preparation of the invasion of Japan. His birthday was August 7. He found out on August 7 of the bombing of Hiroshima the day before and told me dropping the bomb on Hiroshima was the best birthday present he ever received. He took pictures of the Enola Gay when it was on Tinian.
Thank you Tara for another great TDIH, such a necessary step was accomplished by our Marines that day! Semper-fi to the that great military organization 👏 👍 👌
Tara, this was a wonderful story to enjoy with my morning coffee. My father was a WW11 veteran and was in the Philippines repairing aircraft while the marines took back island after island in the Pacific Theater. The combat was ferocious, and the sacrifice was huge. I watched Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech this morning and he spoke of the radicalization of Germany and Japan which led to WW11 and how afterwards, they both prospered and enjoyed decades of peace. I cannot imagine the horror that occurred during these battles. Sadly, we still see it today. Thank you for sharing such great reminder of the struggle to protect America. A lesson we should all embrace and be conscious of in our current political situation.
Hooo Raaaa to all the Marines and the Naval bombardment that preceded and supported them during the battles it took to finally secure the island. RIP to all those that lost their lives. 💔
The planner were amazing in the success they enabled. We all know it was the US Marines that made it happen. We thank the Greatest Generation mostly for ensuring we have the right to speak freely.
Thanks Tara. Another awesome story I learned from.
I know that they are called the Greatest Generation.
Though, they are the very Generation who bore the next Generation that, these Generations together, made possible the next 50 years of the brutal slaughterhouse murder of 10s of millions of preborn human children for the next 3+ generations to come.

This sneakiness helped bring the war to an end!

My father was a Navy Seabee and worked on preparing the airstrip to accept the B-29 aircraft used to deliver the A bombs.
Surprise attacks are often the basis for success. Remember the Alamo, remember Goliad.
