Thank you Tara. George H. W. Bush had to survive being shot down in WW2 or, he wouldn't have been our 41st President. Of course, he was extremely fortunate to successfully "hit the silk" before the plane blew up and to avoid being captured.

God had plans for our future President, such as fathering our 43rd President and, as a member of the Greatest Generation, George H W Bush was tough and determined.

May God continue to bless all who serve or have served this great nation.

Continuing on in the face of fire and anti-aircraft, he did his job, just like his work as president.

Bush’s story kept me on the edge of my seat. He tried to get everyone safe but unfortunately was deeply saddened he didn’t. A good man and a good President. RIP

At last ! A story I actually knew . . . well, part of it anyway. Thanks for filling in the gaps, Tara. A great story of bravery and a great man that went on to serve his country in several important positions. It’s said, “timing is everything”, and he certainly crashed in the right place to be rescued, although it was tragic for the others. R.I.P., sir. You have my respect, admiration, and thanks.

The re-ignition of my love of history, which Tara had quite hand in, has really been focused on wars, specifically the people in them. A lot of the books have been WWII. What I'm continually amazed by is the age of the young men and women fighting. In this we a 20 year old, who just flew a bomber at warships and was shot down crying from fear & frustration. Contrast that with today's 20 year old who will cry because you said a word they didn't like.

I always think about the Kris Kristofferson song "Why Me Lord". In the best clip, he tells why he wrote it before he sings.

The last President to have been a combat veteran. I am always mindful of that each four years. Thanks Tara for this lesson on our 41st and father of 43rd. A great human being who also was of the greatest generation. God bless all of those men and women who served in WW II and as always all who serve(d) our nation since we declared independence and freedom. Without them, we have no nation to love.

George H. W. Bush was a member of the greatest and toughest generation. They were not wimps or weak. That the future president lived to tell the story is a miracle. The deep sorrow he felt in the loss of his two comrades never left him. Such a traumatic experience for one so young.

RIP President GHW Bush. You served us well in WWII. I do wonder what happened to the plane you rear ended though?

Unfortunately you became Mr. "No New Taxes" after you were elected POTUS as you said in your campaign to become POTUS and then within the first year of office caved in and passed a large tax on the American People. perhaps that was why you only served one term as POTUS.

If we forget our history we are doomed to repeat it,
