The Wright Brothers were emblematic of American ingenuity. Americans pioneered so many important industries but few as important as aviation. Wilbur and Orville Wright were pioneers of human flight, using the inventions of many others to create the airplane and their inventions spurred many others.
God bless the American ingenuity. May we rediscover the spirit of the possible and once again lead the world in discovery and manufacturing. Thank you Tara.
This is one of the best accounts of American ingenuity, perseverance, creativity and the will to keep trying until it’s successful. The press evidently even way back then were not interested in reporting anything not interesting or consequential to them. In spite of that Wilbur and Orville persisted in their endeavors to build a reliable flying machine and look where we are today! We are glad that like the Wright brothers, but in a different medium you also persevere believing in the value of writing about and sharing our history, Tara. Thank you for all your hard efforts. We know it isn’t an easy task.
Having been raised near Dayton, OH, these stories ring loud and long in my memory. The beginnings of flight were so obscure-in that day-that many could not catch the implications of what was going on. Now we look to the stars, trying to understand what is beyond and to the oceans to understand what is beneath, but we need to encourage growth at all levels. Encourage innovation, creativity and curiosity for these are the makers of our future while we await His return.
Thanks for this little known history, Professor! The Wright brothers swatted a hornet‘s nest of activity with the research and advancement of powered aviation. Their accomplishments continued for decades even through death. It amazes me how much was accomplished over next 75 or so years. My grandparents were just a few years younger than the Wrights and they witnessed the huge strides made from Kill Devil Dunes to the Blackbird to the landing of men on the moon. What a time in history!
They had to keep their plans very secret as they were many people at the time that wanted the designs stolen and take the credit for replicates and there were many people competing to solve the technical problem of flying. That is one of the reasons that they picked Kitty Hawk for testing of their machines. There is a story of them going to an army general and attempted to convince him the capability and application of airplanes during warfare and his response was that he does not think that there is any practical application of airplanes for warfare! I would recommend the book "The Wright Brothers" by David McCullough the great historian that wrote many great historical books and unfortunately no longer with us. He was one of my favorite authors.
Thanks to the Wright Brothers, I enjoyed an awesome career in the Air Force flying for 19 years as a Flight Engineer. Thanks Tara for this life lesson.
A great book on the Wright Brothers written by David McCullough They were the Bill Gates and Steve Jobs of their day. Worldwide celebrities. One of the most informative books I ever read on any topic. No. I'm not David McCullough. :0)
Wonderful story Tara,
The news was not very interested in the Wright Brothers, amazing.
With all the advancement’s made in air travel which led to space travel, I wonder what the Brothers would say.
Like you said Tara Americans doing what American’s do.
Thank you

And they were +1 in getting back up! Learning from mistakes is the most important part of making them. 😉

Exactly Right Patty ✅️ 👏 👌
Great sharing on the heart of American ingenuity. Thank you!
🇺🇲 We could use a bit of that perseverance and ingenuity now.
Now, the Gov't meddles so much, perseverance and ingenuity are needed.🇺🇲
Most definitely an experiment in keeping your eye on the prize 😉 Thank you Tara 😊
