This was no doubt a regrettable and anguishing circumstance for Benjamin Franklin. Given the past 2 years of our country's divisiveness we have seen families and friends torn apart because of differing views on National issues including freedom and liberty. A consequence of poor leadership and personal choice. But there are some hills worth dying on.

Betsy Tara Ross this just shows the eternal internal struggle of man vs hisself that forces people to choose their calling over their family. Both men had that struggle.

Thank you Tara. I didn't know these details about William Franklin before. He had to have been a huge disappointment to his father. But as with the war between the States and probably other conflicts, the PRINCIPLE can be more important than flesh and blood.

Benjamin Franklin had to have been very conflicted regarding his son but his cause (and ours) to fight for freedom superceded his obligation to William.

May God continue to bless and protect the United States of America.

Proving that Freedom comes at great cost .. not all of that being related to gold !!! Surely this was a steep price for Franklin to pay, but no doubt he considered the even greater cost that would be imposed on those people who believed that building a new nation was worth the price they themselves were continuing to pay !!!
