Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday. William Robert Caddy became a hero and a remembered man in a shell hole on Iwo Jima by jumping on an enemy's grenade, sacrificing his own life so his fellow Marines might live. His sacrifice was spontaneous and he willingly gave his life, saying, "I'll do anything for you" as he jumped on the grenade.
God bless you, Mr. Caddy. Your MOH was awarded for your bravery and sacrifice. God bless you Sir and may God bless all of the Greatest Generation and all who have served or currently serve this great nation.
Why is it that so many have to die to be proclaimed a hero? Yet, this story of self-sacrifice shows the love shining from deep in his heart for his fellow warriors. We can all learn from this.
My late Marine father-in-law was on Iwo Jima, but not in the first wave. This young man was a hero just dripping with bravery and honor. His sacrifice changed the lives of many others and he will never be forgotten. Thanks go to him, all the others who made the ultimate sacrifice, and to all those that served and came home. You all made a difference and are all heroes.
Self sacrifice for your brothers in arms is the definition of love. No greater love than to give your life for others. Great MOH Monday story, thanks for sharing Tara!
Thank you, Tara, it is good to know this fine young man's name and memory live on. His family has much to be proud of. He knew what it was to love his fellow Marines.
How appropriate that his legacy lives on by his name being given to several family members and his community naming a park after him so his life and act of bravery will not be forgotten.
From assistant milk man to a genuine Hero. That is what love of your buddies does to a person. Than you, Tara Ross, for keeping his memory alive!
What a legacy this young Marine left for his family and his town! Thank you William Robert Caddy for the sacrifice that encourages your legacy.
Sometimes civilians can't understand the comradery that exists between soldiers, especially in battle. RIP SOLDIER 🙏🏼
Thank you Tara for all you do. 😊

🇺🇸 Pfc. Caddy's courage and sacrifice should be celebrated, and remembered. Thanks to Sgt. Farris, it has been, and will be through the generations.
