Betsy Tara Ross thanks again! He died with passenger Will Rogers at Point Barrow, Alaska. I think that's how most of us know him!

I remember stories about Wiley Post when I was a kid some 70 years ago. Thank you Tara for remembering another nearly forgotten American Pioneer. Mr. Post's contributions to aviation helped make flying much more popular and his skill helped move technology forward.

I remember the name Wiley Post as his travel companion was none other than Will Rogers and that I remember seeing his house near Los Angeles.

I thought Will Rogers was bigger than life

You certainly pulled one out that I did not see coming! I knew a little about Wiley Post and that he had made a contribution to aviation, but I have never read the details you offered! Thanks! He was a remarkable aviator! How much of a chance would he be given today since he was a convicted felon? We still need to rethink some things.

I remember hearing of someone by the name of Wiley Post but not of all of his accomplishments!

A one-eyed pilot flying around the world!

Great story!

Thank you Tara!

Great Post. They wanted to fly and fly they did! Pioneers always seem to find a way.

The flight that killed Wiley Post was with Will Rogers, who was a strong advocate of the aviation industry and enthusiastically promoted this new form of travel. Sadly they were killed in a plane accident when on a flight to Alaska in 1935.

Wiley Post and Winnie Mae didn't get any of the press that the likes of Charles Lindberg and Spirit of St Louis got! Both flights were not only dangerous, but, cutting edge and historical. The press obviously didn't see it that way. The media seems to dictate to us, what is, and what isn't historical ... makes ya think 🤔!

Thanks for today's lessonTara!!🇺🇸👍🇺🇸.

I’ve heard of Wiley Post, but this is the first time I have heard the whole story. He certainly did amazing things and was a true pioneer. Another great post, Tara.

Somewhat like Wiley Post, my brother acquired an old, and I mean OLD, fabric covered Piper Cub when he was discharged after WW ll and restored it. He too truly loved flying and his bravado almost cost him his life once. Anyway, all that to say that my brother greatly admired Post and talked about him often to me as a child. But I had forgotten his story so I appreciate your posting it.
