What if Canada had joined our Revolution and become part of the United States? Or what if Patriots had seized land in Canada during the American Revolution? How would our world look like today?
It’s always interesting to think how different the USA might be if certain events had or hadn’t happen. The world would look different depending on changed outcomes in history. However history is settled. It is up to us to learn from it.
If Arnold had captured Quebec,We would have gained control of the St Lawrence Seaway which was vital in England's mind as a path to cut the Colonies into two separate regions.Arnold would also have received the glory that He craved so much and in all likelihood would not have become a traitor.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Good morning Tara. Another thought provoking story. Thanks for your diligence and tenacity to get these stories out. Shame that you don't have more followers.
It is too bad Arnold’s mission did not succeed. There were many Canadians who would rather have had independence. However, they really were not populated enough to have resisted the British.
Canada existed quite well under the British, as did most Americans at that time. One has to remember that only approx. a third of Americans supported our revolution, the rest remaining Loyalist or neutral. They lacked the firebrands that made up the members of the Tea Party/Patriots whose actions invited the response from the British that precipitated the eventual revolution. Someday, all of North America may be united in a block, not unlike the European Union. What we couldn't achieve by conquest, we may succeed through union.
It is fun to discuss the what ifs of history and perhaps in the future some of those what ifs might become the impetus for different kinds of decisions. But hindsight is 20-20. The strong arm tactics of the current Canadian government during the truckers protest would not have held up under a Federalist form of government.
We have little to fear from our neighbors to the north these days. Their attitudes seem to parallel ours in many ways, though not perfectly. That's the nice thing about different nations, they can differ and still be friends. Sounds like something to cater to in everyday life.

Every fork includes a different path and reality.

Interesting thought, Canada with the USA!
Thank you, Tara, for another interesting and thought provoking story!
Canada would be more democratic than the way it’s run today. I don’t think they have term limits.
