Freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion has since the beginning been a part of our Constitution. If someone denies the existence of God, let them live their lives accordingly. If someone has decided to live completely in the worship of the Creator, let them do so. We cannot deny that right as it is GOD GIVEN.

Oh how I love the man, George Washington. What understanding and compassion for a religious faction and for religion of any faith.

I believe that not only was Divine Providence and intervention at work on the side of the Americans during the Revolutionary War, I am coming to see that George Washington was also an implement of Divine Providence.

Thank you Tara.

Washington handled that complex issues with grace and wisdom. Yes, Tara, it is indeed wonderfully American. I have many friends that entered the service as Conscientious Objectors. Their lives were in just as much danger as those carrying arms and they served faithfully in that capacity. I have no doubt that there are many amazing stories of the things they did for their fellow soldiers and their country.

I've never thought being a pacifist was in conflict with self-defense.

I never truly understood the whole concept of the Quakers, I do understand being a CO does NOT mean you can’t serve your Country. ie Hacksaw Ridge was a prime example of the heroic service of a CO that saved the lives of countless soldiers on the battlefield while he was under fire.

Though rare, some Quakers believed so strongly in the cause for freedom they took up arms and fought against the British. One such Quaker, Lt. Taylor, died at the battle of Brandywine.
