A complicated history indeed! Every time the government gets involved they mess things up. Not every president deserves a day set aside for them. The US has had a few exemplary presidents. Washington and Lincoln are two that stand out. To lump them all together in one holiday is stupid. It diminishes the extraordinary ones and gives recognition to those who don’t deserve it. Just my opinion. Interesting history about Washington’s birthday holiday, Tara.

There is not now nor ever will be a president more deserving of being celebrated than the great and humble President, and general George Washington.

I prefer celebrating a birthday on the actual day of a person's birth.

Washington and Lincoln are the two whose birthday I remember celebrating when I was young.

We all like 3 day weekends, so make a generic Presidents day on a Monday but celebrate the birth of Washington and Lincoln on their respective birthdays. My 2 cents worth. Thank you Tara.

A focus on the content and knowledge of Washington’s Farewell Address would be good for the country. What used to be read and studied in schools regularly is now, unfortunately banned. Why? Because much of the content and warnings our first President had for us is religious in nature. We want and search for answers and wisdom to our current problems when much of it lies right in front of us in Washington’s Farewell Address...

Couldn’t have said it better.

Yep seems when the government puts its 2cents in things get muddled!🫣🤔

Thanks Tara 😉

I never understood why they still couldn't celebrate their original birthday.

1968, a banner year. Besides screwing up Washington’s Birthday, the democRATS passed the 1968 Gun Control Act which cemented the unconstitutional “INFRINGEMENT” against our Right to Bear Arms!

Rest assured that where money and leisure are involved, Congress will legislate it.

Great post, Tara. Our first President and victor of the American Revolution certainly deserves special recognition.

Good read Tara on the history of Washington’s Birthday

I agree. Washington's birthday and Lincoln's birthday should be celebrated on their own day. Not everyone deserves a holiday....

We’re from the government and we’re here to help . . . . decide when birthdays will be celebrated !

I remember well the 1968 law's effects. There was a time when there were three days celebrated. Washington (22), Lincoln (12) and the 3rd Monday.

Patty said it best in her quote " Every time the government gets involved they mess things up." Truer words have never been spoken. Have an awesome day folks. Thanks Tara.
