There must be a concious effort on the part of our government, educators and institutions to give priority to commemorating our American Heritage and the struggle of individual sacrifice to preserve it and even celebrate it. We have done much harm to that Heritage by overlooking it, ignoring it and even allowing it to go dark to future generations. That is a failure of leadership. Everything starts at the top and we are in desperate need at this time in our history. Thank you Tara for educating us.

I am reminded that most do not realize what sacrifices any veteran makes who agrees to serve and protect. These men were ( against all odds) as determined perhaps as their very homes , new country, and families suffered a very untenable future if they were to lose in their efforts. Fortunately the tide was about to change in their favor but as in all deprivation they of course did not know that; still they persevered. The rest is HISTORY!

I have always loved Thomas Paine’s quote: “These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.” It is timeless. Surely we are being tried. Where do we stand? Washington and his soldier never gave up.

The sacrifices made for freedom must be remembered. Also, freedom, once lost is not easily regained...Well told, Tara I look forward to reading your book 🇺🇸 (just ordered it from your website 😉)

The multiplication of those “little known sacrifices” are the reason we have a free nation.

Thank you Tara. I find it amazing that a man with the gift of words such as Thomas Paine and the rag tag scarecrow of a soldier were together experiencing the hardships and demoralizing retreats of Washington's Army. The darkest experience imaginable just before the light and victory. It renews my faith in our fellow man when I read of the experiences of our forefathers.
