Washington and our founders all believed in Divine Providence and that a moral people were needed to to govern our Republic. There is no separation of "church and state", just no government sponsored religion like they had in Europe. Today's leftist want no religion at all they want government as god...Washington would be appalled at our current federal government.

I agree with others, freedom of religion does not mean freedom from religion. The government should be agnostic but tolerant of all individual religious beliefs.

Thank you Tara. Down with the algorithms of Meta.

The goal of religious freedom for all must be protected, with a thought toward keeping vicious religious beliefs at bay. In other words, hatred toward other religions needs to be kept away from action to trample on other's right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Exactly Right Mark ✅️ and today it seems these vicious religions have raised their ugly heads again.

This also fits right in with those who want us to enforce freedom FROM religion--just as devious as those others.

Though not perfect, GW was the right man to lead this nation in its infancy, which, to me, is proof that God placed him there.

I fully agree that George Washington walked a fine line, but our Founding Fathers were truly against a Government ran religious practice that forced all to participate in like the Church of England.

We must also remember that our Nation was founded by Judaeo -Christian beliefs.

Since then we have allowed many other religions to become established in our Country.

While I agree that man has the right of freedom of religion, I totally disagree with allowing Muslims to be allowed in our Country based on the fact that their primary goal is to destroy all beliefs that disagree with their own.

Call me a Christian Hypocrite if you want but I believe in what I believe and that’s what makes me who I am.

There are Muslim sects who do not follow the teachings of the radical mullahs. I have worked with many who despised what has been done in the name of Islam to forcibly spread Islam through violence. Some Muslims are so violence-centered that they fight each other constantly. Those in poorer nations tend to follow the strongest voice and so many follow the way which leads to condoning violence in the name of their god. However, as a religion, Islam does fall under the “false religion” column. Their god, as much as they want to claim it, is not the God of the Jews and Christians. Their great prophet certainly did not hear from a Messenger of God… Mohammed bought into a lie which elevated him so he became a sultan of the Accuser.

Thank you, Tara Ross, for the refresher on the true position of Washington, and many of the Founding Fathers on the value, and necessity, of religion to a country.

This country has completely forgotten about Washington’s feelings on this necessity of religion and morals in a free state. It is quite sad.

Also due to the heretical teachings of our schools, everybody in the last 40 years believes there is a separation of church and state in the constitution. Washington’s belief at the time was that there is a freedom from religion that was baked into our constitution. Which is actually the case!

Our Founding Fathers were well schooled in the Judeo-Christian heritage that founded the morality of our society. It remains the responsibility of our society to choose to support that foundation or to turn away from and choose another. Our Rights are based in the beliefs generated from the philosophy of our forefathers. While government should not dictate morality we should be very careful in rejecting our moral values for a moral code that rejects the very beliefs upon which our government and society are founded.

George Washington was certainly one of the greatest men ever. I grow more amazed about him as I learn more about him. His letters to the different religious groups, including to s synagogue, were remarkable in how they expounded on the religious freedom of the Constitution and on what the United States fought to achieve through the American Revolution. Thanks, Tara Ross, for this timely lesson.

Like so many other freedoms endowed on us as Americans religious freedom is among the highest and perhaps most important because it guides our lives. It is the basis from which we are a moral people. Not all “religions” are morality driven and I believe Washington would have understood that and been very concerned at where we are today. He likely would have addressed it before it overcame the Christian faith. He was a clear thinking, god fearing man. He and many others in the beginning based the principles of this nation on the Christian faith. There are many facets of the different Christian beliefs, but one thing is common among them all… honoring their creator. There are little signs that respect for religious freedom is starting to reemerge.
