What a Hero! Truly a one-man army. To be prosecuted for flying the flag for which he had fought so valiantly, nearly unbelievable. And, as always, humble: "“I was doing my job,” he later said. “A leader is supposed to protect, lead, and sacrifice himself if necessary.” Thank you, for keeping his memory alive, Tara Ross.

COL. Van T. Barfoot, then a TechSgt, singlehandedly knocked out 3 enemy machine gun nests,(after traversing a minefield), captured 17 enemy, then, he knocked out an enemy T1 Tank before taking injured soldiers back to safety. Quite an accomplishment, which earned him the MOH. Oh, he earned a battlefield commission that day as well.

Much later, Col Barfoot took down his local HOA over his 21 foot flag pole.

God bless Van T. Barfoot and God bless all who have served or currently serve this great nation. Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday.

It’s said that you only value what has come at a cost. Barfoot understood very well the cost that the American flag represents. Even at home he was fighting for the right to fly the flag. It’s good he won that fight too. Some Americans have no respect for the flag because what it stands for has been given to them freely. Colonel Van Barfoot is indeed an outstanding example of all the qualities that make a true leader. America needs more like him.

Leaders do the right things; managers do things right. We need more leaders like Barfoot and fewer minor league "managers."

I'm not surprised at what the Germans did in light of his courage. This generation was indeed the Greatest!

“I was doing my job,” he later said. “A leader is supposed to protect, lead, and sacrifice himself if necessary.” Once again, that can-do attitude is what wins the day. Well done, Colonel!
