A student of mine 20 years ago was in the navy, beginning his career. I'm amazed wer'e both retired now! Anyway, his dad was a roofer. He chose life on a submarine over throwing Shingles in the Texas heat.
Thank you Tara. Submarine service is for the few and not for me. Events such as this one weren't particularly unusual during the early years but, these events also provided new technology. Unfortunately, many lives have been lost in pursuit of safety in submarining.
I had the opportunity to tour the USS Maryland while she was in for service at King’s Bay, GA. Tight spaces, and that’s a ballastic missile submarine, one of the big ones . . . but still tight. They go out on patrol for 90+ days at a time and when they go out, they leave with big cans on food in the floor of passageways so at the beginning of a patrol you are walking on top of cans of food. To serve on a submarine is a calling, but a very important and critical calling. As we approach Memorial Day a heartfelt THANK YOU to all who served and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our - and our allies - freedom.
What a sad event! With Memorial Day coming up thoughts are turned to those who gave so much for the freedom we are still enjoying today. What a cliffhanger! Look forward to reading the rest of the story.
My heart is pounding, breathing too fast, must conserve air…oh wait! Tara has me all wrapped up in this story but I’m home now. Can’t wait till tomorrow!
My grandmother’s brother was a sailor trapped and drowned in the flooded compartments. He’s buried at Arlington.
Spoiler alert. I think we know the ending now. God bless him for his service and sacrifice for my country.
Sorry about that! There is still some mystery about what happened for those who don’t know!
I would have just told Tara he was there. Now we all know everyone died.
No, you don't!
His service and sacrifice is appreciated and he is remembered. Tomorrow’s conclusion will be certainly worth reading.
Ahhh you leave us hanging with bated breath, but nothing that compares to those poor seamen awaiting an unknown destiny.
As usual I look forward to “the rest of the story” (Paul Harvey).

🇺🇲 I hate cliffhanger endings...but I can wait until tomorrow to see how this story of bravery and compassion plays out. Thanks, TR. 🇺🇲
