It's tragic whenever those who can help don't, can't help but think of the incident not long ago in Bengazi...different eras but still tragic both.

Oh my! What a terrible and unnecessary tragedy! So many that might have been saved lost their lives due to indifference and plain negligence. That would be terrible guilt to bear. The story is sad enough with the loss of the five brothers, but the loss of so many others under those circumstances is heartbreaking.

I hope that Admiral Halsey disciplined each of the men and crews who failed the poor struggling survivors of the Juneau. Particularly the coward Captain Hoover who failed those doomed men several times.

I don't know what military protocol was at this time but I am sure that it was reviewed and reemphasized in training so that this never happened again.

The horrors of war aren't for the timid but travesties such as this are unforgivable in my opinion.

I salute each of the heroes who died on the Juneau and those survivors of the torpedo who died before being rescued. The 10 remaining survivors should have been given a heroes welcome home.

Thank you Tara, for telling it like it was.

A needless and tragic event in WWII. The cowardly Mr hoover left many honorable men to die. I certainly hope and pray that he had a miserable life after this event. I hope Admiral Halsey took the right steps in disciplining those that showed no urgency to save their fellow sailors. Thank you Tara for today's lesson!!🇺🇸👍🇺🇸

Disturbing story to say the least. I hope big lessons were learned from this. I really don't understand what the reporting peoples brains were thinking.

Terrible indeed. My step dad served in WWII. The chain of command was not near what it should have been when it came to crisis. A large percentage of loss for men overboard for whatever prompting reason were due to shark attacks. Very sad!

What a horrific story. I sincerely hope that Admiral Halsey made good on his outrage. Another story for another day, Tara?

War is terrible. Not everyone makes it back, and those that do continue to carry a heavy burden. Their sacrifice should be honored.
