They had just finished delivering parts for the Little Boy atomic bomb to American bombers. Now, because of communication gaffes, their ship was missing, but no one knew it.
I've read a lot about this tragic incident. The mishandling of the communication of the ship's sailing and whereabouts was scandalous. The Navy didn't even realize the ship was missing until the chance sighting of survivors by a PBY. I was fortunate enough to obtain a book from one of the last Annual Indianapolis get togethers autographed by the then remaining survivors. A treasured possession.
Thank God that the Indianapolis had completed its intended mission before it was torpedoed. And may God bless every crewman who either survived or gave his life.
Without men like these who fought for our freedom we may have become a different country.
You never disappoint , how you can sum up these stories that are long and make them amazing and tell the story, I am in awe . Thanks for all the hard work we all love reading about history🤗
So many communication failures. Very sad to read this history. I cannot imagine how a ship overdue was not looked for sooner. I hope those rescuers got medals for saving those forgotten men.
A sad and tragic story. I have read books regarding this. It was a disaster that could have ended better if communications were better monitored. God bless those men and their surviving families.

Thank you Tara.
How horrifying that long wait must have been.
I find it hard to imagine. Yikes.

120 miles. Damn.
Seriously!!!
Another GREAT story of heroism in the face of severe hardship! Thank God for these hero’s!
Again, we must never forget!
Thank you Tara!
Tragic and seemingly avoidable. The battle readiness level for this mission seems lacking and without priority. So many unanswered questions.
Thank God for these brave men.

I hope Lt. Marks got medals, Betsy Tara Ross! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Such a sad ending for so many brave men.
Thank you, Tara.
