Thank You for this wonderful reminder that we are a republic..our representatives, even judicial, are charged with following the constitution, and Bill of Rights. They work for us, we are equal.

The motives of people has changed a lot since 1790. Many served their country and went back home. None made it a career. Thanks for this lesson on SCOTUS.

Betsy Tara Ross I think our country was in better shape when everyone still remembered the purpose and toll of the Révolution. Don't you?

Oh for the day when it was not just the justices who served a few years...

We could use a little familiarity with the lay of the land at the Southern Border on the part of the elites right about now. It is astonishing that our laws are not enforced there by democrats or republicans and it is shameful.

At the point that changes were made that deviated from the original design of the Republic is exactly when a bit of the government accountability to the people was lost. It seems to have most rapidly declined in the last few years, but many “politicians” have contributed to the bad policies. Serving lifetime in positions of power is not good for the man or woman serving or the people they are serving. Part of the reason is in the definition of serving in office. Whether elected or appointed they should answer to the people and it should not become a career as it has for so many. Sadly we have lost that to a large extent because we no longer have men who think like the first Supreme Court Justice or men in leadership who have the country’s well fare as their highest priority. Another great post, Tara. Thank you.

Supreme Court Justices traveling the country to hold hearings!

I would have never thought they would be required to do that! What an added chore that would be!!!

Thank you Tara!!!

Very interesting. Most of us, including me, did not know this. It stands to reason that knowing about situations in all parts of the Republic and having a feel for regional problems had to be very difficult for the Court at that time. The press was not circulating everywhere, so there was no way to know and respond to all issues in a timely matter. On the upside of that, however, was the fact that not everything needed to be litigated in the courts. The ratio of lawyers compared to regular citizens was way lower then. Imagine that, now?

And NOW .. we no longer have 5 circuits .. we have more. There SHOULD BE 13 now .. one for EACH CIRCUIT as it was designed to be. FIX our Court

Amen. Yes, the people who served in nearly any role within the government of the United States, did so temporarily and then returned to civilian life. People today want the office for as long as possible because of the power it provides. Thank you Tara.

The difference between the original SCOTUS and today's is startling. So many things to consider with the onslaught of socialism trying to destroy our Constitutional government. Praying for them all.
