Thomas Stone although a simple man lived a remarkable life. He left a wonderful legacy for his son. The advice he gave to his son is still applicable today. He experienced a lot of sadness, but stayed true to his convictions…both in his personal and public life. He lived his words and that’s what made them consequential. I’m glad you shared Mr. Stone’s quote and a little bit about his life, Tara, especially since he’s not as well known as some of the other signers of the Declaration of Independence.
A lesson we all could teach to our children, grands and families.
"Shun all giddy, loose and wicked company,” Stone told his son, “they will corrupt and lead you into vice, and bring you to ruin. Seek the company of sober, virtuous and good people, who will always shew you examples of rectitude of conduct and propriety of behaviour which will lead to solid happiness. . . . Take care not to be seduced by the professions of any person to do what your heart tells you is wrong . . . .”
Thanks Tara for insight into Mr. Stone. He was a great person who loved his nation.
I don't believe that I knew of Thomas Stone before Tara. He must have been a steadfast and honest man, dedicated to his family. His parting words to his son are as good advice today as they were when he spoke them. Thank you Tara.
RE Facebook woes: All the things I liked FB for are things they specifically targeted as undesirable to support: I am exactly the kind of client they want to get rid of.
Thomas Stone proved to be a man of great character. Thanks for sharing his significance with us. I love his remarks of encouragement to his son and hope that his heeded this strong advice.
To live an everyday life, free of vice and corruption is the goal of most of our citizens today. This is what makes the backbone of our country. It allows those who strive to become great a staircase leading to greatness. Make sure that we all need to live upright lives so our country remains so.
Thanks for the history lesson Tara, I had not known of Thomas Stone but it shows the courage of everyday people who stood on the principal of self government.

More folks ought to heed this advice, including me! 😉

🇺🇲 Learned something new today! Thanks, TR 🇺🇸
A true virtuous man who lived by his own words. Died of a broken heart, perhaps, but o’ what a galant roll model to follow.

Thomas Stone, a man doing his best in trying times. I hope his son followed his advice. A legacy of honor.
Thank you, Tara.
