Even so long ago the government’s priorities were skewed! Here was a man who had given so much for his country and he’s repaid with a medal This is not to belittle the Medal of Honor, but in reality it does not provide a job, give care to the wounded and disabled, or comfort and financial security to the veteran and his family. Private Thomas Neibaur is a perfect example of the shameful way so many of our veterans have been treated. I don’t blame him for being sarcastic in his letter to the senator with instructions to give the medal to the sec of war with his statement. It good the letter got published and spurred at least his home state to do the right thing. The last quote is a beautiful tribute to a true patriot: “Thomas C. Neibaur, with a German name and an American heart and soul…”. Great start to our week, Tara!

Never ceases to amaze me how people think events and attitudes of today are unique.

More directly to our esteemed host: thank you. Your work means more to me than is probably reasonable. I’m a simple veteran, so the dog I have in this fight is small. But it’s important to me to see that people get the recognition they deserve.

The problems we face today of caring for our vets is not new. It seems the congress is more interested in inviting criminal invaders to our country and caring for them. This needs to stop!

Veterans in this situation is one reason VFW and American Legion were borne. Late for those who served in WWI. RIP Sir. You deserved better from your country.

Yes, "Peace to his heroic spirit". Thomas Niebaur was a hero in every sense of the word for his actions in WW1.

The injuries he sustained while performing his one man invasion of a German held stronghold were not compensated by his country although he had been awarded the MOH and many other medals.

Thank God that his own state compensated him with a job during the depression. Today, our heroes are not always adequately taken care of by our government. A number of private entities have been created to help wounded warriors and their families. Thank God for men and women like Private Thomas Niebaur who give so much for our protection. Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday.

Good for him sending his medal back. The generations during the Great War were people of great courage.

“who no doubt has performed a much more patriotic duty to our country by saving the people the few dollars necessary to pay my claim than I did when I stopped an enemy counterattack and saved the lives of a number of American soldiers . . . .”

How can this be said any better? RIP brother Neibaur.

It can’t be said any better. It should have been a knife to the Secretary of War’s conscience as well as other government officials. Instead it was his state that stepped up and did the right thing. That is an important lesson for all of us today.
