I like to consider myself sort of a history aficionado ... didn't know much about pre- Constitution. Thank you for this one (and many of your others). Tara .. and my morning coffee .. is a THING.
Hi, everyone -- in case it helps, there is a little bit more discussion about what it means that he was President of Congress vs. President of the United States in this story that I did a few years ago: https://www.taraross.com/post/tdih-elias-boudinot I was more focused on McKean's contributions than the President title in this particular piece. 🙂
Thank you Tara. I had heard of Thomas McKean but I hadn't known about his many efforts and offices during his career towards the government that resulted from the Continental Congress. He was certainly very important in the process of rebelling against the tyrannical British government and as a leader in forming our great nation.
There are so many people who are a part of our history that are new to me. Thanks for doing the research, Tara, and sharing their stories with us. I guess technically McKean was “President”, but Washington was definitely the first President of the USA. 🇺🇸 McKean was an interesting man.
Like Patty said above..."There are so many people" that play important roles in the formation of our independent nation!! This one is very much UNDER TAUGHT, as I do not remember any mention of him in my history lessons! He definitely deserves an important spot in our nation's history! Thank you so much for our continuing education Tara!! 🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Certainly a very important figure in the struggle for independence. It seems he would not be the first President of the United States of America as it was not entirely established at that time. Possibly it should be taught that he was the precursor of the Office of the President of the United States of America by serving of as the President of the Confederation Congress. An important link in leading to the Constitution we have today and certainly a vital part of the process.
Glad he was able to rally Caesar Rodney to ride 80 miles on horseback to vote for the Declaration of Independence. What we wouldn't give today to have some leaders who are tough enough to answer the call for freedom.

Another firebrand that helped to forge The U.S.A., what an exciting story. Another Founding Father to delve more deeply into. Thank you, Tara.
I didn't know about this guy, but I like him!
By all means Thomas McKean should be recognized as one of the original Founders of America.
Thank You Tara
As always... Loving the history lessons... Thanks Tara ! ! ! ! !
I had heard about McKean before but did not know about the person. Thanks for filling in that info gap.
Thank you, Tara.
A strong leader of our new nation.

Thank you, Tara, for another little known story concerning our nation’s founding!
Thomas McKean was a hero who helped form our nation!
Thanks again, Tara, for getting these stories out there for us!!
