Truly a man dedicated to America. It’s astounding how much he did to serve his country. Thomas Heyward, Jr and many others like him had a wonderful vision of a country of free people working hard and prospering not just financially, but in so many facets of life. Thanks for highlighting his story, Tara.
Great story! I had never heard about Thomas Heyward nor have I ever heard of this song. I will to research them both and try to expand my knowledge of both man and song.
Thank you for this history of another unknown signer. They all need remembering as their contribution added to our victory. Adding the Constitution to his resume was another great feat. Thomas Heyward deserves our recognition as a founding father.
Thomas Heyward Jr., a name that wasn't recognized by me. Thank you Tara for another history lesson. Mr. Heyward was another man who risked his own life in defense of the country he loved.
His personal knowledge of the belittlement of the British Crown and the British people served as the fuel of his patriotism.
May God continue to bless this United States of America. I thank God for the courage of our founders.
Those who have paid the price of freedom treasure it the most. Those who have suffered the loss of freedom desire it the most. To coin a phrase: hard times create good people. Good people create soft times. Soft times create weak people. Weak people create hard times.
Thomas Heyward was one of those strong people of the American Revolution whose contribution to the cause was personal and physical. Thanks, Tara Ross, for bringing these examples and heroes to the forefront of our memory.
He noticed (and was apparently irritated by) the fact that British citizens in England did not view the British citizens in America as equals. He was also unimpressed by the opulence and materialism that he viewed abroad and much preferred the more straightforward American work ethic that he remembered from home.
America has a rich history of the American worker and their contributions to the wealth of our country and working and lifting themselves to higher economic levels. The primary ingredient for that success was and is freedom, not taxes, not government assistance but freedom to take ahold of opportunity. Hope we never lose it.
Thanks Tara. The people of the United States need to be reminded of the sacrifices though out our history. You do a great job of this.
I agree.

Thank you Tara for another great TDIH. I guess we all forget what hardships the signers went through some even lost their lives.
