Thanks for keeping these stories alive, Tara! We need to remember the acts of patriotism that brought our country to life, to be inspired to keep the fires of freedom burning. Long live the Republic!
What a great American patriot and a great woman. She was definitely mature and dependable even though she was so young. Her father (and I think her mother too) taught her well. Something that is lacking in so many youths today. Many are spoiled and have not been taught critical thinking skills. Perhaps the fault lies with parents and other adults who don’t do their duty by work and example. They leave it up to others to teach the youth and so they get indoctrinated. We need more Sybil Ludingtons and Colonel Ludingtons. There are some, but we need more. Great story of a brave young lady, Tara.
Tara I always enjoy your posts, so informative. I wish history teachers around this country subscribed to your posts! We need our history to be taught to our youth.
Tara/Never knew this! Thank you. For nearly 30 years I lived in Brookfield just outside of Danbury CT, the former “hat making capital” of the world, and this story somehow escaped us all- until you brought it to light. Indeed, much more was expected of a child of 16 back in 1777 than today .. she wasn’t wearing a helmet either I bet!
I love this story of this brave young lady! The confidence her father had in her was proven true. Women of all ages played an important part of our founding, and winning of this war. Thanks for these untold stories Tara!
Thank God for delivering and providing such Patriotic and brave individuals to begin one of the greatest Nations ever. Of course we had so many Godly men and women that He helped to guide them during that time. Oh how I pray that He will raise up more Godly men and women to deliver us from the evil ones that have taken over our government.
Pray hard for a government that will honor Him once again.
Good morning and thank you for this important piece of history that has been overlooked. To my understanding, Sybil's Patriotic ride was another example of a black American hero that has been removed from most historical accounts. Thank you for bringing attention to this inspirational story and it's relevance to our American History. 🙏🇺🇲
Not sure where you got the idea she was a black girl from this story. No matter of what race she was or ethnicity, she was a brave patriotic woman that did a great deed and probably more throughout the Revolutionary War.
It's impossible to truly understand how difficult Sybils ride must have been. The Patriots weren't just the fighting forces, they were also the regular citizens who had enough of the British Crown. God bless this great country and people such as Sybil who undertook a very difficult ride to do her part. Thank you Tara.

Agree wholeheartedly. Teachers have tremendous influence. It would be a great start if parents begin by teaching it to their children first.

A great story and well told! Always good to hear the stories and accounts that I have not heard before. Thanks!
What a ride, what a girl.
Thanks. I have heard of a "female Paul Revere" But, did not know the story. As always, thanks for the lesson!
Another new name and story for me!
What a wonderful story to kick start my morning. Thank you Tara.
I love these lessons. I learn the rest of the story as Paul Harvey said so gracefully. Thanks Tara for this story of an 18th century heroine.

Yes, she was a brave young woman and her Patriotism and courage should not go unnoticed. I am grateful for her bravery! Thank you for your comment.
Her story should definitely be told. I don't think she was black though.
I didn't know about her till now!
Thank you also for acknowledging the difference between 16 year old in the past and 16 year olds of today!
