This is a heartwarming story. Sinbad lived an adventurous life. He was very good and sometimes very bad, but he was loyal and loyalty counts a lot. No wonder he is still remember and honored by the Coast Guard today.

“Sinbad was a salty sailor, but he’s not a good sailor,” an old Coast Guard magazine noted. “He’ll never rate gold hash marks nor good conduct medals. He’s been on report several times, and he’s raised hell in a number of ports. On a few occasions, he has embarrassed the United States government by creating disturbances in foreign zones. Perhaps that’s why Coast Guardsmen love Sinbad; he’s as bad as the worst and as good as the best of us.”

I’ve had some shipmates that can be described that way. They are usually the ones you look back on during your days of service with fond memories😀

Sinbad sounds like a great Coastie he kept the men company when they were down. Yes he caused a bit of trouble, it happens. What a great story of a super dog.

Sinbad went from 1st Class dog to seaman pup and then to Chief dog. Hilarious 😂. But, I can imagine the comradery this Mutt engendered. Long live Sinbad, the sailing dog!

Thank you Tara.

I know the reason they called him "Sinbad," but do you think perhaps his hijinks came from a desire to live up to his name?
