What a wonderful story of another Super American Hero. Mr. Silvestre Herrera may have been a foreigner when he joined the Army in WW2 but his heart was American through and through.

The bravery of Mr. Herrera is without doubt and his actions in France left no doubt of his allegiance to his adopted country.

God bless MOH awardee, Sgt. Herrera and may God continue to bless all who have served or currently serve this great nation. Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday.

Silvestre Herrera was too brave to let little things like mines and machine guns deter him ! He was a hero for sure and it’s miraculous he survived ! Definitely a man of action.

My disability is very minor, compared to this. I deal with balance issues from mild cerebral palsy. He was right; we don't want anyone to feel sorry for us, so we just keep going!

I cannot imagine such bravery and even more firing at the enemy with both legs blown off!! There is no way to describe such love of country, fellow soldiers. And like all MoH recipients he didn't think much of it!!!

Mr. Herrera was more patriotic than some natural born Americans. He gave so much for his adopted country. He certainly deserved both the Medal of Honor and the highest medal for valor from Mexico. Perhaps the American citizenship was a higher honor than even the medal he received. Another humble hero not to be forgotten.

The humility of this kind of man, a remarkable hero, is humbling to say the least. I certainly am challenged by his humility after such a great personal sacrifice and heroism. Many thanks to PFC Sylvestre Herrera. May he rest in peace.
