The road to independence was rough, but with Washington leading the way victory for the colonies was won. Battle after battle the patriots kept fighting until freedom was theirs and as a result the following generations have been recipients too. Is it slipping away? Sadly we’ve lost a lot over the last few years. We need to learn, relearn and teach our children American history. It’s important to instill a love and appreciation for our unique heritage. You do a lot to promote this, Tara. Thank you.

A Tyrannical British Government and King forced the hand of the American people who just wanted to be free and to have a Government in which they had a voice.

I thank Providence for giving the Founders the direction and perseverance they needed to achieve that freedom. Thank you Tara.

On a side note, if times had allowed accepted equality among men and women, might Abigail Adams have become our first woman President? She certainly seems to me to have had all of the qualities of a good President.

Thank you, Tara, for another story concerning our nation’s founding and the tough decisions our Founders had to make to gain Freedom from British tyranny!

How could it come to this? How could a group of loyal citizens be forced into breaking away from their mother country? Had the King and his consorts totally ignored the needs of its subjects, taxing them without so much as a by-your-leave? And so it goes. History is repeating itself...

Thanks Tara 😊 It seems Abigails woman's Intuition was working correctly when she penned her letter!

The King and the Parliament should have known that their actions to keep pushing for more taxes on the Colonies would result in revolt. If one considers the makeup of the Colonists they were mostly independent and adventurous people.

Love what John Adams wrote to Abigail... “Our Prospect of a Union of the Colonies is promising indeed. Never was there such a Spirit. Yet I feel anxious, because, there is always more Smoke than Fire—more Noise than Musick.” and hoping for the best & concluding with “Certainly, There is a Providence—certainly, We must depend upon Providence or We fail. Certainly the sincere Prayers of good Men, avail much.”

Well, at least the 2nd Continental Congress immediately recognized that they needed a Comander in Chief of "their forces". Although the only forces that were assembling were regional in each state, and I wonder how many were fully organized into a uniform fighting force.

As is, often said, no sane persons enjoy wars or conflicts, but there are other countries and nations that leave no other alternative. At times, taking up ARMS at our borders is the only way to deter those that want to steal FREEDOM from patriots of our great nation. If the situation requires citizens to take up arms against intruders that invade, then good conscience requires each patriot to do their part in repelling by use of arms and (attitude) for freedom's sake.
