"The difficult we do now; the impossible takes a little longer.” That's the sort of thing we need to teach our children: Do Hard Things! That's the American spirit.

I first learned about the Seabees from the John Wayne movie about them, "The fighting Seabees"! A great movie about them, thanks for the story Tara!

I’ll have to check out that movie. John Wayne was a great patriot.

You will love it!!

A friend’s father was a Sea Bee assisting with making that movie. He said it was the most dangerous thing he did!

That's pretty funny.

I have great admiration for the SeeBees. I had an uncle who served in the SeeBees during WW2 and I believe that he was at Guadalcanal.

I would have loved to have been a SeeBee but I didn't have the skillset at the time during Vietnam. Besides, nearly every member of my boot camp training group were assigned to Hospital Corps School.

The SeeBees provide absolute essential services in order to make our other rates able to do their jobs. Thank you Tara. You enlighten your readers daily and you are an essential source of knowledge!

This is a fantastic account of our military history, Tara. Amazing craftsmen! The worker bees of America. “We build, We fight.” A great motto! Doing the difficult now; while the impossible takes a little longer.” Wonderful story of the formidable Seabees. Good one, Tara.

Brave men with grit and knowledge. They truly were one of the reasons we won WWII.

Served in the Seabees from 68 thru 72. A remarkable experience that combined construction skills and small arms training. My fellow “dirt navy” sailors were the best.

I love that this story is finding so many former Seabees. Thank you for your service.

I had heard about the SeeBees but never why and how they were formed!

Thank you, Tara, for enlightening me, AGAIN!

These stories are so important to us and future generations of American’!

Nothing other than defeat can demoralize an enemy more than building back in a very short time those things they worked so hard to destroy!

My dad's cousin was an Admiral of the CB's. Not sure if the time table for that, but do know he was the commander of the Biloxi station in the early 70's. He passed away the day before Thanksgiving last year.

I am sorry for your loss. I bet he had some good stories to tell about his time in the Seabees.
