I hadn't realized that politics were making Sedition laws in 1798 but the whole impeachment trial of Justice Samuel Chase seems very similar to the last five years. Judges shouldn't be political activists, particularly the Supreme Court, which should render decisions that strictly interpret the Constitution instead of decisions in favor of a political leaning. Treating thought and speech as crimes is what political enemies do. Putting those thoughts and speech in to action is the impeachable offense.
