Treating thought and speech as crimes is what political enemies do. Putting those thoughts and speech in to action is the impeachable offense.

Tara, you are much too sharp for me. I imagine that you carefully crafted your words so that the powers in charge didn't object, but you fooled me too.

I hadn't realized that politics were making Sedition laws in 1798 but the whole impeachment trial of Justice Samuel Chase seems very similar to the last five years. Judges shouldn't be political activists, particularly the Supreme Court, which should render decisions that strictly interpret the Constitution instead of decisions in favor of a political leaning.
