"Our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty."
What is so very frightening is the number of people who want to give up their freedoms because someone disagrees with them. They prefer freedom of speech be gone. Short sightedness is rampant. Those who cheer for censorship refuse to see they will be censored next
I fear the sanctuary is closing. As Ronald Reagan once said, "You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness."
How easily Americans are manipulated and fooled. It’s a mystery how quickly we believe everything the government, unelected agencies and the press tell us. Part of the blame lies with our terrible education system and part belongs to society’s high standards crumbling into nothing. The family unit is weak. Courage and common sense seem non-existent. I appreciate the great responses to the post on FB especially the quote of Samuel Adams by Statutes. The People They Salute: “Nil desperandum, - - Never despair. All are not dead…where there is a spark of patriot fire, we will rekindle it.” There is still hope.
Yes, Patty!! Thank you! We must fight harder to keep and renew our freedoms. The darkness is well funded and strategically placed, but it is a minority. I pray that the God who gave us our freedoms is hearing our cries.
It always amazes me how words from hundreds, even thousands, of years ago are still so very relevant today.
That the words are still spot on doesn't amaze me, but that mankind, who in arrogance believes we have evolved to some higher state of wisdom and morality, doesn't realize we haven't changed, that amazes me.
These liberties we so strongly cling to are what makes our nation great. They are also the sore point to so many who want THEIR liberty at the expense of everyone else's. Be willing to keep the flame of freedom well tended.
This is a very timely and spot on post! It is hard to do much better! Thanks, Tara! I know it may not be what your high standards dictate, but this meets the need! I have already shared it!
Americans are losing their freedoms through the government's suppression of the basic human rights that Sam Adams had in his thoughts as he spoke these words and are the thoughts that GOD means for us all to assure for each other. But freedom does burn in the hearts of enough patriot souls that the idea of Liberty will never be erased by the elites and despots. May GOD assure that it be so.
Yes, the August 1, 1776 words of Samuel Adams still ring true today Tara. Thank you for this story.
Personal freedom isn't complete without civil and religious freedoms and a country where it is perfectly safe to practice our personal thoughts and beliefs.
We are living in a time where our freedom of speech is no longer free. For example, we are not able to converse openly and freely, our thoughts and concerns about the Covid 19 origin, vaccines, etc. Our freedom of speech is monitored and sanctioned by our government and by the compliant media.
Samuel Adams and all of our founding fathers would absolutely revolt against the restraint of the freedoms currently placed on us by our own governments.
What is so very frightening is the number of people who want to give up their freedoms because someone disagrees with them. They prefer freedom of speech be gone. Short sightedness is rampant. Those who cheer for censorship refuse to see they will be censored next
"Those who cheer for censorship refuse to see they will be censored next." -- Exactly. Ugh.
