The story of these two guide dogs and the rescue of their owners on 9-11 is special to me. I have personal experience with the loyalty and expertise of guide dogs. My dad lost his sight at 39 and passed away at 59. During the course of those years he had three guide dogs. The first two were Golden Retrievers named Orla and Lore. His last dog was a Yellow Lab named Walnut. They gave my dad freedom and security he would never have known without them. So the story of these two amazing dogs does not surprise me. Thanks for sharing their beautiful story, Tara.

So many heroes that day. It is appropriate that we think about all of them.

What a great heart warming story of love and bravery. Those two men would surly have died if not for their dogs!!! Thanks again Tara for a uplifting story in the mist of tragedy and great sorrow.

What a great story about two service dog hero’s. I have always said that dogs love unconditionally just like God loves us unconditionally. Maybe that’s why Adam named them dogs to be God spelled backwards.

Our neighbor has had a series of guide dogs over the past 3 decades. They are interesting to watch, very affectionate and loyal to their partner. Off harness they are as active as any other dog, but once the harness is on, it's all business. These two dogs showed that amazing capability.

Thank you Tara for sharing this heartwarming story of two tremendous labs who saved lives on 9-11. As our MOH awardees often say, these dogs were "just doing their jobs". Man's best friends!

The thoughts of Salty licking the faces of fire fighters ascending the tower is most moving. Love this story so so much. Dogs are a bridge from earth to heaven.

Yes, I teared up when I read that he'd done that. I bet it helped the firefighter, just a little.
