Clever trick to fool the British and win the day without loss of life on either side. Too bad so many of these wonderful stories were not and maybe still are not taught in school. I’ve learned more in depth American history since I’ve been reading your posts than I learned in school, Tara. You present it in such an interesting way. Thank you for all you share.
Thank you Tara. Cousin William Washington was both creative and bold when he fashioned a log into a make believe cannon. His fake artillery undoubtedly saved lives and possibly shortened the war.
I love the stories that come out of the south during the American Revolution. South Carolina became a civil war zone during the American Revolution. The patriot were a very determined force, and for the most part, were militia who still maintained farms around their homes. The British actually changed the terms of surrender after the surrender of Charleston and many were infuriated and felt their dignity had been spurned. Their response was a very determined resistance which in the end proved to be successful. The patriot forces at Rugeley’s Mill provided an example of that determination in the south. Washington and his Continental Dragoons played a very significant role not only here but in the eventual defeat of the British in the south. Thanks for another great story from South Carolina!
How many stories are garnered from our past?!? Such a victory at a difficult time, and all done with a wonderful subterfuge. No shots fired made it all so great! Keep up the great stories, Tara!!!
This is a great almost humorous post. However it also shows the unique thinking of a great leader of the Patriots. I tip my hat to the Washingtons for giving us not just one but two great leaders.

Several incidents like this occur throughout history, and I enjoy this all!

Thank you, Tara.
🇺🇸 Well played, Lt. Col. Washington. Well played! 🇺🇲
Great story, TR!
Thinking outside the box brings success much of the time. Lt. Col. Washington took a chance and was successful. Impressive move on his part.
Thank you Tara for a story in my extended backyard.
Clever and not terribly different from how the Germans fooled the allies at Pointe du Hoc in Normandy.
Love it!!!
