When he first tried to join the Marines, he was denied. “He seemed disturbed in that he wasn’t in any branch of the service, unable to do his share,” a friend said.
Tara, another American Hero whose story I didn't know until now. Thank you for another MOH Monday.
Robert, "Bobby" McTureous, another of the Greatest Generation, had to fight just to get into the Marine Corps by working to save money for hernia operations needed to be accepted into the Marines. Then, he proves his heroism with feats of great bravery to save other American lives while sacrificing his own. His MOH was earned while Mr. McTurney did what he would probably say, was just doing his job.
I am glad that his hometown has marked his heroism with a memorial so that his life and bravery would be remembered.
Robert McTureous was an outstanding American. He was a true patriot. He went above and beyond to even get accepted into the military. Once in he gave his best and last measure for the country he loved and his fellow Marines. A brave and selfless heart. I’m glad his hometown honored him on top of the MOH. We need to remember our heroes from every generation. My favorite Proud to be an American day…Medal of Honor Mondays!
MOH Monday shows all who read that there are many to emulate in life. All of these stories tell of those who went well above expected service. God bless them all.
That was a special generation and a special time. My dad tried to join several branches of the military, but a birth injury to his shoulder made it impossible for him to raise his arm above shoulder height. (Making it rather difficult to salute.) He finally got an opportunity to work as a civilian airplane engine mechanic and was then sent to Hickam Field at Pearl Harbor for the remainder of the war.
Another Marine Hero. I am not surprised but just another uplifting tale of the unselfish acts of so many brave Americans that sacrifice themselves to protect and save others. Makes this old Devil Dog proud just to have served alongside with them, maybe not in WWI or WWII but during Vietnam. Simper Fi and Rest in Peace Marine.
Another heart warming story of an American hero to start the week. We should all remember and honor those who sacrificed their lives to allow us the freedom we enjoy. America is now under attack from within, and we should all be mindful of our history to assure the promise of America continues for future generations.
