The tell us all we need to know. "Another member of the Greatest Generation, “just doing his job.” Rest in peace, soldier." They are and remain the Greatest Generation. RIP to them all.

Faithfully giving us another miraculous story of another MOH recipient on this new year holiday! Thank you, Tara. Robert E. Laws like so many others didn’t think he had done anything extraordinary. He couldn’t even remember what he had done probably due to his injuries. I love his sense of humor as well as his humility.

Wow! Out like a punk drunk fighter, still on his feet and punching any thing that moves, saving his men along the way. Proves that heroes have an innate part of their being that rises to the top when duty calls. Great story.

Combat will do this. Some will freeze while others will charge as if in a trance. It's like fight or flight. Many will not even recognize they have been wounded until later. Well done, comrade. RIP

Another great story by a man who lived to tell the tale, or as much as he could remember.

Another wonderful gem. I have toured Luzon and Corrigador, visiting the memorials. Ferdinand Marcos built a 300 ft tall cross on the tip of Bataan that looks over Manila Bay. It has a wonderful museum that highlights much of the battle for the Philippines, including the Bataan Death March. Corrigador has a line of marble memorials that honor each specific battle location in the Pacific, starting with Pearl Harbor. Absolutely heart wrenching. All of them paying tribute to the horror and destruction. Gun emplacements with huge craters where the shell or bomb landed which you know, killed every man on the gun crew. Markers every kilometer that show the route of the Death March. When I visit the Philippines again, I will go to Cabanatuan, the POW camp depicted in the movie The Great Raid, which everyone should watch. At Subic Bay, they display a memorial that describes The Hell Ships (Google for details) which were overload with POWs. Absolutely brutal conditions. This man won the Medal of Honor on a battlefield that I have only seen on a marble remembrance. He was a true American hero. We should always reflect on those who sacrificed for our nation, and we should honor them by assuring our nation shall persevere for future generations. Thank you Tara for bringing these heroes to our attention.

I think he meant the first 🍍 but he was functioning on a different level. I hope his fallen friend was honored too.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Yes, may you rest in peace, Ssgt Robert E. Laws.

The perseverance of Mr. Laws in battle allowed him to perform nearly superhuman feats and to keep fighting after his ability to conciously remember those feats had left him.

May God continue to bless Mr. Laws, and all of the Greatest Generation who sacrificed so much for our continued freedom.

Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday on this first day of 2024.
