Unfortunately another brave soul and a great leader of his men didn’t live to tell stories to his grandchildren of the tragedy of war. 😢❤️

"Unafraid, with his first thoughts for his men." Col. Robert G. Cole definitely seemed to be Unafraid and I can imagine that he was a beloved, and larger than life leader, whose men would follow anywhere.

Col. Cole was the epitome of an American Hero. His MOH was justly earned.

May God continue to bless the United States of America and all of those who have served with honor.

Thank you Tara, for another MOH Monday.

He died as he had lived....true of all of us, I think? His short life was better spent than most though!

When heroes act out of spontaneous bravery, they seldom know the greater acts they performed under fire.. (And then, only their family ever hears, until the burglar plays “Taps”!)

The heroes seldom known, but to God.

A man that few know of, yet surely deserved more than the MOH. May he long be remembered.

The good colonel and I had something in common as members of the screaming eagles: he was first out of the plane during this combat mission while I was unanimously voted to be first out of my jump stick because of a tendency towards air-sickness. No one wanted to be under me on my puking way down. R.I.P. sir.

Great leaders have always been known to lead by example. It would seem that Col. Cole certainly led by that mantra through the actions related in your story, Tara Ross.

“He died as he had lived unafraid, with his first thoughts for his men.” This could be the epitaph for all our heroes who gave their lives for their military men and for all their countrymen. It is so inspiring to read about our Medal of Honor recipients. Robert G. Cole...another name synonymous with bravery, a characteristic of every American hero. This is one way we can remembering their sacrifice. Tara, you make Mondays extra special.

I'm never certain these heroes are "unafraid" but they certainly do their "duty", and more, to protect their companions and win the day. I really like the stories of the MoH heroes who live to receive their own well earned MoH!

Totally agree! They probably had feelings of fear, but they were able to overcome their fears for the sake of their fellow soldiers and sailors. I’m always thankful when they survive and return home to their families and homes.

If you haven’t seen Band of Brothers, I highly recommend it. It's about Easy Company of the 101st. Episodes include Carentan and Market Garden
