It's almost that a script written for MOH Awardees was replayed by Lt. Richard M. McCool Jr. He didn't believe that he did anything worthy of the Medal. Although he didn't remember doing anything special, he just responded well in a crisis.

God bless Mr. McCool for his brave actions in the face of extreme personal danger and God bless all of the Greatest Generation. May God continue to bless all who serve or have served this great nation.

Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday.

This is the heart of a servant. McCool only knew there was work to be done and he scrambled to do it. You served well, sir, and thank you!

I marvel at the responsibility that a 23 year old has in our military. The military trains them and then puts them in charge of lives and multi-million dollar assets. Remarkable individuals! Thank you Lt. McCool for your courage and bravery!

He didn’t believe that he deserved the Medal. If not, who does?

As you said Tara, he was humble and didn't think he had done anything but his duty. It seems all MOH awardees have the same mind set. They accept it for those who gave all. We need more men like that in our service and in government.

Twenty-three and Lt. McCool is in command ! He was a go-getter and I’m certain he was mature beyond his years. Definitely deserving and he was in the right place to save lives and make a difference.

He might be better off for having no memory of his heroics!

Lt. McCool is an exemplary example of the US military especially during that generation. They lead in every instance. There are probably many others who exhibited the same courage and selflessness and didn’t receive the recognition. Perhaps men like McCool speaks for them all.
