Spoken like a true American Hero, Richard Bush said that his MOH belonged to all of the Marines around him. It seems that most,if not all of the MOH awardees believe that the Medal should be shared by his fellow troops.

Thank you Tara for a MOH story on a Friday. May God bless Mr. Bush and all who have served or currently serve this great nation.

Hopefully, his father didn't fulfill his promise regarding a medal.

Our heroes are so humble. Richard Bush like many other heroes was not motivated by the desire for fame and honor. He genuinely cared for his fellow Marines. He did it without his dad’s support and in spite of not wanting to go. Still he bravely did his duty and more. They are who keep America safe. Thankful for all of them.

Wally took the words out of my mouth. Cpl. Bush fortunately did not heed his dad’s warning and paid a high price for it, but there were at least four fellow Marines who would gladly protect him from his Dad.

Simper Fi Marine.

"I didn't earn this alone. It belongs to them too.”, A very common comment from most of these MOH heroes.

It is something about serving in the Corp that brings out the best in men. I love what Bush said at the end of your article...that he had Marines on the left and right of him and ahead and behind. There is a special bond that develops that makes them unite together to accomplish heroic things. They do it not only for country, but for each other. My dad and two of my cousins are Marines. (Once a Marine, always a Marine.) One is a woman who served in Bosnia. My dad served 2 tours in Vietnam. I see a special giving spirit in them that is unique to the Corp. Thanks for the article.

I, too, am a Marine Corps brat and proud of the service my family has had a part in, from my dad, brother and two nephews. You are so very right about that unique marine Corps spirit!

I guess his dad decided not to fight him after all! 😉 These heroes aren't good listeners, are they? I'd still have tried to get rid of the 🍍 🍍 🍍 though!

A true hero. Always humble.

My dad was in the navy and was in Okinawa for the initial bombardment of the island. He couldn't believe there were still that many enemy soldiers left.
