This camp just outside Cabanatuan City was the largest American POW camp ever established on foreign soil. How surprising that its story isn’t better known.
I’m so thankful for the sacrifices made to secure my freedom. This story is heartbreaking, but history needs to be told so it doesn’t get repeated. Thanks Tara, keep bringing it!
I don't think that I knew of the POW prison in the Philippines. The Bataan Death March was horrific but I wasn't aware of this POW Camp nor the terrible treatment of our American prisoners. War is terrible but the inhumane treatment of the prisoners is unthinkable. I sincerely hope that this and other examples of torture received just retribution at wars end. Thank you Tara. This story should be known by everyone so that it may never happen again.
The only reason I knew about this was a movie called "the great raid". At the time I didn't know it was based on a true story. Thanks for sharing this largely unknown feat.
Thanks Tara! I grew up in the Philippines and all I knew was the Death March and many atrocities by the Japanese soldiers. However my elders mentioned that the first Japanese who built a garrison near our ancestral house were benevolent. I was a baby at the time and Japanese Officers were playful with me.

Thank you for that history, Tara about those who suffered so much in the fight against tyranny. 🇺🇸
I never knew! 😢
There's a fantastic book about this rescue. Look it up, it's worth reading!
These stories break my heart.
