Great story ! Tara, you should have been hired long ago to provide a syllabus for history, grades 1 - 12. I really feel a bit cheated on how much I was never taught !
Thank you Tara for this story of another unlikely hero who received the Navy Cross and recently had a Navy Destroyer named after him.
US Coastguard Captain, Quentin Walsh led a brave mission during the Normandy invasion that secured a French port, captured 350 German soldiers and gained the release of 50 American Prisoners from the Germans. Quite the achievement of a Coastguard officer on French shores.
Walsh was the General Patton of the Coast Guard, brave, smart and bold!! He deserves the recognition of a Destroyer named after him. Great story Tara!!!
Now that indeed took fortitude and initiative, and what a pair they are! What a slick talker! Please tell me he had a long career after the war and in civilian life as well! That was one tremendous sailor.
He did continue on and was promoted to Captain, but he eventually had to retire early because of some health effects from this mission. I *think* he went on to be a teacher, but I didn't really look into that part. He passed away in 2000 at age 90.
Excellent piece. WWII is not explored as it should be. Younger people should know about the war that had to be fought and how much the freedoms they experience today are due to these men and women.
Semper Paratus.
Always Ready.

Thank you. So glad you are enjoying the stories and learning new stuff!!! :)
Another American - getting it done! Naming the ship in his honor is a very nice ending. Thank you Tara Ross for also keeping his memory alive.

A pair was all he needed to make such a great bluff! 😉

This another story I had never heard of before!

Another almost forgotten story of bravery. Thanks Tara for reminding us.
