This is why I so enjoy your posts, Tara. I learn from you, every time you post and today is no exception. I didn't know about the original award created by George Washington.
This prestigious award is given to recognize injury incurred in battle. Thank you Tara and may God continue to bless all who have been awarded the Purple Heart and may God continue to bless all who serve or have served this great nation.
What a great post to commemorate Purple Heart Day. I didn’t know the history of this award. It’s not surprising that George Washington was the one who initiated this recognition for the every day soldier. They are often overlooked when their service and sacrifice is just as important. Could a higher ranked officer do it all alone? The rank and file are truly the backbone of the military. General MacArthur did a good thing by reviving it.
I like what Wally said. I, too, learn something new every single time that I read your posts. Thank you for making history come alive and reminding us who and what came before and what freedom is built on and the sacrifices made.
Military awards of this sort are not seen in much earlier history. Although soldiers have been recognized in some manner but such an award for the common soldier who often is cannon fodder has been minor if at all. The hash marks for service years was truly innovative!
Washington was very wise in rewarding all the military men, it forged a bond with all ranks and still does today!! George Washington is truly the Father of our Nation!!

Exactly Right Patty ✅️ 👏 👌 💯 👍
Thankfully General MacArthur reinstated Washington’s medal.
Today’s Purple Heart Award is issued for those wounded in combat a change from the original intent.
Some high ranking military have referred to the Purple Heart as an enemy sharpshooter award.
Nevertheless, god bless those awarded this Medal.
Thank you Tara
