Daylight savings time is stupid. There is no extra hour of daylight. Get up in the morning and enjoy it.

This story must be fictitious. “Congress acting with speed” ? ? Impossible ! 🙂

Well, it was a long time ago. And not likely to be repeated anytime soon.

I actually don’t remember this happening. It must not have affected my daily life. This debate has a long history. I think Hawaii and Arizona got it right and have proved that sticking to one time can be done. My preference is permanent standard time. I don’t like switching back and forth.

I am a survivor of winter daylight savings time and it was one of the most ill thought-out events of my life. Noon should be noon.

Stupid is as stupid does.(Forrest Gump)

An old Indian saying goes: Only the Government would take a 6’ blanket, cut off 1’, then sew it back on to the other end and think they have changed the length of the blanket.

God help us all.

And that is why we study history. I hear that times have changed, but the typical human nature has not changed since before The Preacher wrote that there is nothing new under the sun. People still treat people the same and have been the same since recorded history began. I don’t expect the results to be much different if Congress changes it to permanent again.

So much of it depends on where you live in the time zone. We are in the far western part of the Mountain Time Zone so, summer or winter, standard time or DST, our sunrise and sunset times are later than those in the eastern part. In winter, we go to work and school before sunrise, even with Standard Time. We do love our late sunsets (after 9pm) with DST in the summer.

I believe that time zones were set up by the railroads to standardize schedules, because "sun time" is different all across the nation. Maybe Tara could do a story on that if she hasn't already?

I remember this and loved it! I know in brings division but changing the clocks is a bad idea. Leave it one way or the other and the people will adjust. You can't change the amount of daylight. Farmers always stay on their farm hours as animals don't do time change and niether do infants and toddlers. I hope we pick a time (daylight savings is my perferd choice) and leave it. The winter days are short so enjoying them in the evening makes sense. Let the debate begin! Thanks Tara!!!

I remember waiting at the bus stop in the dark.

I wouldn't mind DST going away as a normal event, as Arizona did. Any start time requirements would be up to the entity (no need to plan around the government). I remember thinking about that as a kid. We had a neighbor that worked at a local reservoir (our water company). They didn't change time, just changed their watches (started/shift change never moved). And thought how easy that made things. As an adult and shift worker it was entertaining: your shift would be an hour longer or shorter. And one guy would change the GMT clock (like clock work). Had to print a label and stick it on the back. And still confirm it hadn't been changed on my return to work.

I agree with you Tara. I remember the last time we tried permanent DST and I became a disliker of any DST. My vote, (assuming that we are allowed to vote) is to permanently eliminate DST. Thank you Tara.

Time change is difficult with my little dog. An hour one way or the other makes a difference to her when it comes to eating dinner, just as mentioned with infants and children. I like standard time.

I drove school bus at that time... It was a very bad idea! My route was in the country and the kid's parents were terrified... as was I.
