Forming our Constitutional Republic was a messy task. Thankfully both sides worked through it and we ended up with the Bill of Rights too. It is also understood that it can be messy keeping our Republic. It certainly isn’t a once and done. There will always be differing opinions and viewpoints. The goal is to continue to work toward a more perfect union and protect the foundation of our beautiful nation. I always learn new things from your history posts, Tara, and often reminded of things I know. Thanks for the refresher courses.

Thank you Tara. The arguments against the ratification of the Constitution weren't all wrong, in my opinion. Certainly in hindsight, like 240 years, some provisions or limits may have been wise but it still is the greatest form of government ever created.

So many today forget the that many were fearful of an overreaching federal government that would infringe on the riht of states and persons. So thankful that there was pushback so that we did get our Bill Of Rights. Interesting that many didn't think we needed it, how wrong they were!!! Even today we must fight for these Rights as FREEDOM of speech, religion, right to bear arms, and others are under attack. There is no such thing as "hate speech" or "misinformation" that is a means to silence "we the people"!! You have the right to say stupid and mean things you also have the right to refute such speech. We must fight to keep ALL our Rights not just the ones we agree with.

Pennsylvania politics. It hasn't changed much, has it? But at least in the early days, they eventually got it right.

It’s amazing how history tends to repeat itself. Technology changes, but people don’t seem to.

The stories we see of our nation's formation give me hope that we can continue to grow. Our Constitution shows the greatness of our nation and is the rule we live by today. The Bill of Rights delineates government restraint.

Seems I owe James Wilson a huge thank you. His statement and republishing made the Constitution a reality that I am glad occured. Our government isn't perfect. In my travels, it beats every county I have lived in.

Thanks Tara for this wonderful story.

In the lobby of the Federal Building in Syracuse, NY is a copy of the original 12 Amendments as offered. The original 1st was about apportioning representatives. The second had to do with pay raises. So our current 1st and 2nd were actually 3rd and 4th. Of note is that the original "{2nd)" amendment was never explicity rejected. It was finally passed in 1992.

The fact that we have many Amendments to our Constitution proves that it is as perfect as it could ever be when written. We later added the Bill of Rights (Thank God) and has times changed we have made Amendments to reflect\change with the times. Society and people do change with the times, some for the better and some for the worst. Let us all pray that we start to learn our lessons better from the past so as to not repeat them in the future.

God Bless America!

Another great column Tara, your history columns should be required reading in high schools across the country.
